Development Associate

Essential Functions
•    Maintain integrity of data in Raiser’s Edge donor database by using policies and procedures for consistent data entry, data review and reporting
•    Coordinate Campaign/Fund/Appeal/Package definitions with the Director of Development and
Finance Department to ensure accurate recording/reporting/reconciliation of all gifts/donations
•    Receive and process incoming mail containing donations and donations received at the Welcome Desk
•    Insure timely input of all cash/stock gifts, pledges/pledge payments, recurring gifts, matching gifts and in-kind donations; import donations from peer-to-peer fundraising vendors
•    Process acknowledgement letters and donor correspondence as required; including
Honor/Memorial notifications; strong familiarity with mail merge functions is required
•    Prepare year-end donor statements if requested
•    Provide monthly gift entry report to Director of Development
•    Work closely with Finance Department to maintain accurate records and complete monthly reconciliations
•    Coordinate and maintain donor record integrity – import/update addresses, contacts and other biographical data as necessary; utilize database vendor programs where appropriate (ex. Address Finder)
•    Provide timely and accurate creation and generation of queries, reports and analysis as requested from Development Team and/or Executive Team
•    Provide support to Public Relations/Communications in extracting donors for external communications such as newsletters and annual reports
•    Be the in-house database expert and provide training and assistance to other database users as needed. Troubleshoot database problems with vendor(s) and internally as needed; be the technical liaison to all database vendor(s)
•    Maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding employee, donor and other personal and critical information related to the agency, its employees and benefactors.
•    Demonstrate strong commitment to the mission of the agency
•    Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; highly sensitive to timeliness and responsiveness necessary to meet the information needs of a fast-moving, dynamic organization
•    Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
•    Detail oriented, with commitment to accuracy, consistency, discretion, and maintaining confidentiality
•    Perform other duties as assigned.  
Minimum Education
High School Diploma; Bachelor Degree preferred  
Minimum Experience
Preference given to individuals that can demonstrate professional experience in: database management and Microsoft Office suite experience, strong writing and telephone skills. Previous database and/or fundraising experience in a nonprofit development environment strongly preferred.

•    Basic understanding of adolescent development and behaviors; demonstrate enjoyment of and ability to relate to at-risk youth and demonstrates empathy with the joys and pains of others
•    Strong ability to relate effectively with staff, youth, and community agencies  
•    Is approachable, builds rapport well and practices attentive and active listening
•    Knowledge of adolescent development, family dynamics, crisis intervention
•    Ability to learn and navigate multiple databases including Microsoft Office suite
•    Ability to address conflict well and manage difficult youth in a supportive, non-threatening manner; Able to respond quickly and safely and is a settling influence in crisis situations and emergencies
•    Ability to work with people of varied cultural backgrounds and tolerate differences in behavior
•    Support equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all; tolerant of people and processes. •     Ability to work independently, using good judgment, and common sense
•    Able to make good decisions consistently based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment

•    Proficient with standard computer operating systems
•    Excellent oral and written, communication skills including organizational skills and attention to detail   
•    Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
•    Willingness and ability to travel for periodic training, work outside of normal business hours, and Holidays and/or weekends as needed
•    Able to physically accommodate a wide range of strenuous physical activity, including but not limited to walking long distances, moving up and down stairs, lift bags/boxes up to 50 pounds, drive a minivan and physically manage youth if needed
•    Possess a current state of Alaska Driving License  
•    Have a clean driving record
•    Pass federal, state and local background investigation
