Associate Athletic Director for Development

Determine individual fundraising strategies to include prospect identification, discovery or qualification visits; cultivation plans; and solicitation of specific amounts. Maintain a portfolio of 75-100 major gift ($25K+) prospects. Apply, regularly assess and adjust the strategies to successfully meet specific program needs and realize strategic opportunities and annual goals. Represent the University to various community organizations and individuals to build relationships for future gifts. Serve as a resource on development activities. Serve as a resource when calling on potential donors or working with internal or external units or agencies to communicate departmental planning priorities. Provide input in the University's strategic development plan in concert with strategic planning efforts and in alignment with overall departmental and University Advancement goals. May assist with writing grants to secure funding.

Serve as the lead development professional by:

- Preparing and presenting requests/proposals to donors; presenting convincing verbal presentations, and solicit gifts.

- Submit 20+ major gift proposals annually with a 75%+ success rate.

- Establish, cultivate and determine prospect activities for donors. Perform research and assessment of potential donors.

- Identify donors ready to consider a planned gift (secure 2+ planned gifts a year).

- Determine strategic developments plans with the Lead Development Officer to meet specific program needs and student opportunities.

- Acting as a resource for the Athletic Director to assess how alumni, volunteers, and related industry partners' resources and interests apply to their programs, mission, and priorities.

- Serving as a resource associate directors and administrative staff of Athletics on all aspects of development, from prospect calls to check processing. Arrange related cultivation and solicitation meetings and activities for the Chancellor and other University staff.

- Determine fundraising strategic initiatives that reinforce the University's strategic vision, extend UAA's brand, and can be packaged as part of UAA's comprehensive campaign.

- Align unit development activities with the programs and services of the Development Office.

- Serve as a resource to coordinate activities of the Development Office on annual giving and donor relations with regards to prospect strategies and gift completion.


Administrative duties include briefings and coordination of solicitation meetings, development travel, presidential briefings, and timely contact reports and proposals for Raiser's Edge Reporting (filing 120+ contact reports a year). Work with the University Advancement Department to plan Athletics donor receptions, issue press releases and coordinate other forms of Athletics donor recognition. Authorize expenditures and plan college budget for representational expenses related to development. Other Athletics duties as assigned. This position will be located in the Athletics, but will be considered an integral part of both the UAA's Development Office and Athletics Department. Performance goals will be established by both Development and Athletics, and reviews will be conducted by both.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Exposure to higher education, providing an understanding of development work in relation to higher education.

Preference for, but not required, hands-on experience working in intercollegiate athletics, or on behalf of such programs.

Demonstrated success or aptitude in solicitation of donations and experience in fundraising.

Ability to establish and cultivate relationships with donors.

Understanding of the motivations of individuals to give philanthropically, and an ability to understand and articulate the priorities of the University. The ability to provide sound advice.

Strong leadership skills and self-motivation. Must embrace the concept and attitude of teamwork in a complex organization.

Experience managing projects from inception to completion.

In-state and national travel is required to meet with donors/prospects. Evening and weekend meetings and games are necessary, therefore flexibility in schedule is required.

Requires results oriented individual.

The ability to work with community leaders and wide variety of individuals.

Ability to lead activities such as events, administration and appeals to meet multiple fundraising goals.

Knowledge and ability to apply fundraising principles and strategies.

Knowledge of industry trends, best practices and technology.

Ability to lead staff and volunteers.
Required Experience: Minimum of two years professional level (or higher) experience in corporate, foundation, non-profit, or university setting.
Typical Education or Training: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, public administration or relevant field and two years experience or equivalent combination of training and experience

Minimum beginning bi-weekly salary: $2235.20
